What Are You Telling Yourself?

What are you telling yourself about yourself?  What are you telling yourself about God, your money, your weight, your relationships, your dreams and goals??

The inner dialogue you have with yourself has the greatest impact on your attitude and your mental health.

Most people never question the thoughts that go through their heads. They accept what they think, even though their thoughts may be irrational.

Your thoughts are important to God.  The Word of God speaks a lot about thoughts and the mind.

If you don’t question your thoughts, they will go unchecked. Your thoughts don’t always tell the truth. Sometimes they lie. Don’t accept every thought that goes through your head.

In 2 Corinthians 10:5 we are told to “demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and to take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ”.

You can do this when you know what the Word of God says and when think about what you think about.   We first must become aware of our thoughts.

Begin to identify your triggers and the thoughts that follow.

Listen to what you say to yourself (even if it’s under your breath or only in your thoughts) the next time you goof.  Do you hear something like, “That’s OK.  Nice try.  Let’s see if we can do better next time” Or is your self-talk more like, “Well, that was stupid wasn’t it?  Get a grip.  “Can’t you do any better than that?”

Remind yourself daily that you are a person of value, put on this earth for a purpose, and you have something positive to contribute.

Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
